Exposure is a weight assigned to each doctor with a weight of 1.0 assigned to a general practitioner. Medical specialty classifications having a higher or lower risk level are assigned a higher or lower weight. The exposure weights (called class factors) reflect current rate relationships among the medical specialty classifications. A similar weighting system is used to reflect the relative risk of a mature claim made policy (weight of 1.0) relative to policies having less maturity.
